1. by using small doses

2. by changing physical form of test substance eg. encapsulated MSG releases slowly

3. by providing test material with a food item, in order to reduce effect of test substance.

4. by including people on medication that might block effects of test material.

5. by limiting the time in which subjects are not being observed. (reactions occur late will not be counted).

6. by time administration of test material and placebo. (then product reactions could be counted for placebo).

7. by not considering known adverse effects of test material.
